Target Community Engagement Funds - WVW Career Ready: Investing in Our Students’ Future Wyoming Valley West School District requested funding in the amount of $15,000 to the Target Community Engagement Funds (CEF) to support the WVW Career Ready: Workforce Readiness & Mock Interview Lab at Wyoming Valley West High School. The proposed project will provide students with hands-on career exploration, mock interviews, professional skill development, and meaningful connections with local employers to help prepare them for successful futures in the workforce and postsecondary education.
Toshiba America Foundation - Dana Street Elementary Center 4th Grade STEM Kit Initiative The Dana Street Elementary Center 4th Grade STEM Kit Initiative will provide hands-on, standards-aligned STEM kits to all fourth-grade students, promoting inquiry-based learning through experimentation, problem-solving, collaboration, and real-world challenges. The $1,000 project will expand equitable access to high-quality STEM experiences for students while building critical thinking, creativity, communication, and perseverance skills.
DCED School Facilities Improvement – Middle School Gym Renovation Project
This multi-phase project focuses on renovating the middle school gymnasium to improve safety, functionality, and student access to physical education and extracurricular activities.
DCED Greenways, Trails, and Recreation – Partnership with Larksville Borough
In partnership with Larksville Borough, this project seeks funding to develop a sensory playground at State Street Elementary School. The proposed space will provide an inclusive outdoor environment designed to support sensory exploration, play, and physical activity for students of all abilities. The playground will enhance recreational opportunities for students during the school day while also serving as a community resource that strengthens the connection between the school and the surrounding neighborhood.
Dollar General Literacy Foundation – Chromebook Literacy Initiative
This project supports literacy instruction by providing Chromebooks that allow students to access digital reading platforms and targeted literacy interventions designed to improve reading proficiency.
Community Project Funding – Middle School Auditorium Renovation
This project will modernize the middle school auditorium to improve safety, accessibility, and functionality. The renovated space will support student performances, assemblies, and community events while providing a high-quality learning and gathering environment.
DCED Multimodal Transportation Fund The Wyoming Valley West School District, in partnership with the Borough of Kingston, submitted a DCED Multimodal Transportation Fund grant application to improve pedestrian safety at the intersection serving Chester Street Elementary School and Wyoming Valley West Middle School. The proposed project includes the installation of high-visibility crosswalks, pedestrian warning signage, ADA-compliant curb ramps, pavement markings, and other pedestrian safety improvements to create a safer, more accessible route for students, staff, and community members traveling to and from the schools.
Neag Foundation Grant – Salvadori STEAMWorks The Wyoming Valley West School District submitted a grant application to the Neag Foundation requesting funding for the WVW Salvadori STEAMWorks: After-School Project-Based Learning Initiative. If awarded, the grant will provide students with hands-on, project-based STEAM learning experiences that foster creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving while expanding access to innovative educational opportunities aligned with the Foundation's mission of creating meaningful change in education.
DCED School Facilities Improvement – Spartan Learning Academy
The Wyoming Valley West School District has applied for a $5 million Public School Facility Improvement (SFI) Grant through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to renovate the Third Avenue Educational Center into the Spartan Learning Academy. The project will transform the aging facility into a modern, center-based special education program serving approximately 100 students annually with Autism, Emotional Support, Multiple Disabilities, and other complex needs. Renovations will include specialized classrooms, therapy rooms, sensory and de-escalation spaces, accessibility improvements, safety and security enhancements, and infrastructure upgrades, creating a safe, inclusive, and state-of-the-art learning environment while expanding high-quality, in-district special education services.
Grants Received/Awarded:
PCCD 2026-2027 School Safety & Mental Health Grants - WVW Awarded $335,276 The funding provides WVW with an opportunity to address high-priority school security and/or mental health needs, with an emphasis on projects that provide a significant upfront benefit while limiting future recurring costs.
DEP Environmental Education Grant Wyoming Valley West School District was awarded $4,995 in grant funding to purchase a Forks Farm Flex Farm vertical hydroponic growing system to support hands-on educational experiences focused on water and soil conservation, water quality, sustainability, and climate change. The hydroponic system will provide students with opportunities to explore innovative agricultural practices that conserve natural resources by growing plants in nutrient-rich water rather than soil, while demonstrating sustainable food production methods that are less impacted by climate conditions. Through this initiative, students will gain real-world exposure to environmental stewardship, resource conservation, and emerging agricultural technologies.
Marine Toys for Tots Literacy Program - STEAM Books The Toys for Tots Literacy Program provided the District with 3,641 high-quality, age-appropriate books, which have been received and will be made available for student use. This support enhances literacy development and academic success for economically disadvantaged students and contributes to closing reading gaps. As part of a nationally recognized initiative that has distributed over 63 million books since 2008, this program expands access to essential educational resources at no cost to the District.
Ready to Learn Grant
This large-scale educational initiative supports multiple programs focused on improving early learning outcomes and academic readiness. The funding helps expand instructional resources, support educational programming, and enhance opportunities that improve student achievement across the district.
PCCD Mental Health Grant – Cyber/Trauma/Third Ave Counselor
This project supports expanded student mental health services by providing an additional counselor focused on supporting cyber students and those experiencing trauma-related challenges. The goal is to strengthen student well-being and provide targeted support services.
ALDI Smart Kids Grant – Student Support Program WVW was awarded $500
This initiative provides resources that help support students and families in need, ensuring that students have access to basic necessities that allow them to focus on learning and academic success.
Project AWARE+ - WVWSD was awarded up to $70,000 AWARE+ funding supports schools, districts, and intermediate units in strengthening existing mental health and suicide prevention initiatives by enhancing programming, data systems, and sustainability aligned with established AWARE goals and integrated within district practices.
PEMA (State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program) The Grant provides funding for comprehensive cybersecurity support by monitoring networks for threats, identifying and prioritizing risks across connected devices, training staff to recognize attacks, and strengthening overall system security through vulnerability management.
