SUPERINTENDENT

Wyoming Valley West School District (approx. 5,000 students; six schools) is located in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The district serves residents in nine communities in the heart of NEPA (Northeastern PA). A diverse community with access to larger metropolitan cities and a vibrant culture, NEPA is a great place to work and live. The district seeks an ethical, values-driven, and well-qualified leader who embraces WVW culture. Critical skills/experiences in the next superintendent should include:  

  • Organizational leadership skills to drive the district’s mission, values, and goals; 
  • An unwavering dedication to fostering academic growth and student performance, while addressing the developmental needs of all students;
  • Knowledgeable on curriculum, instruction, and assessment measures, and ability to align those to the evolving needs of the students of Wyoming Valley West;  
  • Systems leadership to institute a thoughtful chain of command, and maintain focus on the leadership, management, and expertise of district leaders;   
  • Budgetary and financial management abilities to oversee maximization of efficiencies without compromising programmatic or operational quality;
  • Communication and engagement skills that emphasize accurate and timely information along with visibility and accessibility to all stakeholders;
  • Ability to hold others accountable for execution of key plans, programs and policies through an independent, objective approach to leadership;
  • The ability to deploy and support educational and operational technology;
  • Team-building strategies that will acknowledge the skills of our highly professional staff through collaboration, mentoring, and instructional leadership;
  • Ability to advise the board as its chief strategic advisor, while effectively serving the board by faithfully carrying out programs, policies, and other directives;  
  • Skilled at navigating contractual issues, and understanding collective bargaining, while preserving educational, operational, and fiscal integrity;
  • Decisive, yet consensus building in the process of making critical decisions to advance the strategic plans and vision for the district.   

The successful candidate must hold, or be eligible for, a PA superintendent letter of eligibility. Significant teaching and administrative experience strongly preferred.
